Cleaning Hacks & Making Fun of My Flaws
The running joke in my house is that if you ask me to clean, you’re going to get the cleanest, most organized closet, cupboard or drawer… and not much else.
My problem: I focus so hard on one area and before I know it, two hours have gone by without moving on. Maybe it’s ADD or some form of perfectionism, either way, I’m not great at the whole house casual cleaning day. My boyfriend however, thrives on the everyday pick-up. Opposites attract, right?
So, what do you do when you want a clean house, but can’t seem to master the art of casual cleaning? Make it fun, of course.
You’re about to see a glimpse into my childlike ways, but I swear this is the best cleaning hack out to keep yourself moving. One of the ways I balance my love for deep cleaning and the need for a quick gloss over is to have a product or tool that makes it fun and fast.
For example, my shower has the world’s tiniest tile (I did not choose it) and it seems to get grimy every couple of days. Before, I would use a toothbrush to scrub and scrub and scrub. I LOVED the end result, but I’d burn a whole morning trying to make it spotless. Thanks to the wonderful black hole called Amazon, I found an electric scrubber that’s 10x the size of a toothbrush. I get the same result in a fraction of the time. There’s something about a “power tool” that gets me excited.
Another of my favorite gizmos is my steam mop. I have wood floors which always concerns me when it comes to chemical cleaners. Using a mop and hot water didn’t seem the best alternative either. Enter my swirly, steam mop. No chemicals and all the fun. It gives me the same thrill watching the steam lines as freshly vacuumed carpet lines. I told you, childish.
I’ve linked some of my favorite gadgets and gizmos, and other cleaning go-to’s, below. Comment and share your favorites! I could use a few more :)
